Peace Winds Japan (PWJ) is a non-governmental organization (NGO) dedicated to the support of people in distress, and threatened by conflict, poverty, or other turmoil. With its headquarters in Japan, PWJ is operational in many parts of the world.
A world where people can live without the threat of conflict and poverty, full of hope and respect for one another.
・We provide timely humanitarian relief in emergencies to help people whose lives have been threatened by conflicts and natural disasters.
・We assist communities whose social foundations have been destroyed by providing rehabilitation and development cooperation for self-sustainability.
・We pursue conflict prevention and resolution through our field activities.
・We raise public awareness by disseminating information on assistance needs.
・We put forward proposals for improving the effectiveness of relief-providing mechanisms in society.
With the motto of “providing the necessary support to people in need,” PWJ carries out its diverse activities across national boundaries. whether in support of refugees who have fled their homes, or internally-displaced people suffering in their own countries: PWJ provides support. From victims of natural disasters, to poverty-stricken communities; or for any people in distress regardless of their ethnic background, political stance, or religious faith: Peace Winds Japan is there. Our assistance activities are two-fold: - emergency humanitarian assistance and disaster relief activities aiming to safeguard people’s lives and meet their basic human needs; and - reconstruction and development assistance for the regeneration of self-sustaining livelihoods. In Japan, PWJ also engages in advocacy activities to raise the awareness of the general public about the various humanitarian situations in which PWJ operates.
PWJ gratefully acknowledges the many types of support from: - volunteers who contribute their valuable time and skills at our offices and special events in Japan; - corporate supporters with numerous important in-kind contributions; - PWJ’s friends and families who understand and share our value by providing the moral support. Financially, PWJ is supported by membership fees, donations from individuals, businesses and partner organizations, as well as by grants from government institutions, international organizations, and various foundations. PWJ strives to leverage all the resources we receive in the most efficient and effective way to create the greatest impact to improve the lives and well-being of the people and communities we assist.
