Mongolia: Supporting a safer place for children to grow

Peace Winds Japan (PWJ) has been providing operational support for a private social welfare institution called “Vervist Care Center” in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia since 2006.  VCC houses 40 children who are unable to live with their parents due to their economic as well as difficult situations at home, and provide them with education and vocation trainings so that they will be ready to contribute to the society as they graduate.

This September, PWJ staff visited VCC to join the celebration event for the 20thanniversary since its foundation.  The festive spirit was in the air.  The yard was decorated with many colorful balloons and flags, girls and boys were all dressed up in nice clothes,

VCC Director opened the celebration with his speech, followed by several district officials as well as local police officer.  Children presented variety of songs and dances they had practiced for this venue and received warm applause from the audiences. Children looked very happy and giving big smiles whenever PWJ staff tried to take photos.

VCC received a few new children this year.  PWJ will continue to support VCC activities and hope all the children at VCC will continue gain valuable life lessons, education, and receive useful vocational trainings as they grow up.

You can also take a part to help these children in Mongolia.
