[Nepal] “My house and kitchen” Ms. Ankita Roka was awarded competition holding her art

On July 2022, Peace Winds Japan organized an International Art Festival for children around the world. In Nepal, the art competition was held among the students of Lotus International School, Suryabinayak-5, Bhaktapur. 19 students participated in the event where each one of them showcased their talents in the form of drawings with their subject of interest. Along with their drawings, they also shared their dreams about what they wanted to be in the future.

The other day a prize distribution ceremony following the Art festival was held, where the child with the best art was provided a Peace Winds Calendar for the year 2023 that incorporates the best art of children from around the world. All the students who participated in the art festival were provided a certificate of appreciation for giving their best efforts in the competition.

The drawing of an 8-year-old Ankita Roka from Nepal was selected as the best drawing out of all 19 participants, which is incorporated in the month of April in Peace Winds Calendar 2023.
Her drawing title is “My house and kitchen”. In her drawing, she tried to picture her house and kitchen surrounded by beautiful mountains and trees with birds flying over them. She says that her favorite place to be in the house is the kitchen the s she loves to eat, which is why she showed her kitchen alongside her house in her drawing also. She dreams of being a teacher in the future. Surely in the future, she will live in a house with a picturesque kitchen next door and work as a teacher.

The prizes were distributed to the children by Mr. Yasufumi Tsukamura (Asian Regional Manager, Peace Winds Japan) accompanied by Ms. Nana Yamaguchi (Country Representative, Nepal Office). The ceremony was held on the premises of Lotus International School, Bhaktapur, where the representatives of Peace Winds Japan were welcomed by the children and the teachers of the school with flowers.
Perhaps surprised that her artwork was selected, Ms.Roka went up on stage with a nervous look on her face and received the calendar from the Mr.Tsukamura. Students around her said, “Her picture is in the calendar! That’s amazing!” Ms. Roka looked a little embarrassed.
The principal of the school seemed to be very pleased with the opportunity that the students got to explore regarding the Art festival and was hopeful for coordination with Peace Winds Japan in similar other events in the near future also.
